March is the first day of meteorological Spring 🌱

In the teachings of Chinese Medicine, the arrival of Spring heralds the time of the Wood Element, aligning closely with the essential functions of the Liver and Gallbladder.

The essence of the Wood element encompasses growth, a deep sense of fairness, and notably, the emotion of anger.

From the standpoint of physiology, the Liver (representing Yin) and the Gallbladder (symbolising Yang) take centre stage during this season. The Liver is often depicted as the 'General,' commanding the flow of Qi or life force, the circulation of blood, the modulation and expression of emotions, and our innate impulse towards growth. Meanwhile, the Gallbladder, as the Liver's strategic partner, plays a pivotal role in decision-making and bile secretion.

The Liver's contribution to our well-being is multifaceted, stretching across both the physical and emotional realms. As spring unfolds, it's common for a range of emotions to emerge, with feelings of anger and a sense of injustice being particularly prominent. These emotions, whether they stem from unresolved issues or are triggered by recent events, tend to become more apparent with the change of seasons. Given the Liver's association with our eyes, this season also emphasises the importance of clear vision and perception.
